There’s nothing like building up the excitement of Halloween and people with children have a whole month to do so. Check out some of these neat and easy-to-do crafts that your kids will have so much fun doing.

Halloween Paper Bag Puppets

Aside from storing your lunches and snacks, paper bags are also great for making hand puppets. Turn your brown paper bag into a spooky hand puppet that’s been inspired by the many Halloween characters we’ve come to know and love. By using different colored construction paper and markers you can create puppets like a wicked witch, a Jack-O-Lantern, Dracula and so many more. And once you’re through with performing your puppet show, the paper bag puppets can double as your treat bag for when you collect all those yummy candies.

Candy Corn Corn

Speaking of candy, did you know that you can also use them to make fun October crafts? It’s time to plant your candy corn seeds and grow your own crop of candy corn corn. All you need to make these sweet creations are construction paper, ribbons, glue and whole lot of candy corn. Cut the construction paper into oval shapes and randomly glue candy corn on to it until you’ve covered most of the surface. Make a small hole at one end and string the green ribbon through then tie a bow in the front. This is definitely one way to encourage kids to eat more vegetables.

Coffee Can Scarecrow

If you have a few empty coffee cans lying around, use them for your child’s next craft project. Coffee can scarecrows are great for keeping the crows away from your candy corn crop and they’re really easy to make. Take some brown construction paper and wrap the can around with it. Use buttons, twine and felt to give your scarecrow a friendly face. Finish it off with a straw hat and you’re ready to set it out into your candy corn field (or front porch).

Jellybean Pumpkin

If your kids like pumpkins more than they do corn then this cute little pumpkin should be their next craft. It’s a great treat to give away to trick-or-treaters or at Halloween parties. They’re small enough to fit in the palm of your hands and the best part is they’re filled with jellybeans! To put this jellybean pumpkin together you’ll need orange tulle and brown or green pipe cleaners. Take a handful of jellybeans and wrap it up in the tulle. Twist off the top and coil a pipe cleaner tightly around it so it looks like the stem of a pumpkin.

Halloween Banner

Banners are a great way to decorate your home for the Halloween season. Plus, they’re simple to make and only require a few materials. You can make them from felt, cardstock, fabric or regular construction paper. Cut the banners into the shape of a flag or pennant. Decorate them to resemble Halloween elements such as ghosts, pumpkins, candy corn, bats and the like. Use mini wooden clothespin to attach them onto a piece of yarn and you’re ready to hang them up for all to see.
